VolkerRail awarded second stage of Sheffield Supertram Contract
VolkerRail has been awarded the second part of the tram rail replacement project by South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE). This is the largest investment programme in the tram system since it began running in 1994. It involves the replacement of 29km of the tram track over three networks.
Contract
Tram network owner South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) and system operator Stagecoach Supertram are funding the project, with the majority of work being undertaken during the next four years at an estimated capital cost of £32million. VolkerRail completed the first stage of the project, between Spring Lane and Park Grange Croft, in 2013.
