History

The history of Volker Stevin goes back to 1854, when Adriaan Volker set up as an independent building contractor in Sliedrecht. His business soon grew and undertook larger assignments such as the excavation of the Nieuwe Waterweg. As early as 1880 Adriaan Volker took the first steps on the route to internationalisation. The business continued to grow and acquired a number of Dutch and foreign companies. In December 1970 three building companies decided to join forces under the name Stevin Groep: Van Hattum en Blankevoort (established in 1831), Boele & van Eesteren and Van Splunder. These individual companies also had a long history.

Mergers

In 1972 the now "Royal" company was turned into Koninklijke Adriaan Volker Groep, as an umbrella organisation of an extensive group of companies in the Netherlands and abroad. In 1978 came the merger with the Stevin Groep to form Koninklijke Volker Stevin. The Stevin Groep was also the result of a merger.

In 1991 the dredging activities of Royal Volker Stevin came to an end. The Kondor Wessels Groep was founded in 1990 from a merger of the listed IBB Kondor company and the Wessels family business. IBB Kondor started out in 1969 from an integration of Ingenieurs Bureau voor Bouwnijverheid nv and Aannemingsmaatschappij De Kondor nv, whose own history goes back to the early 1900s. Both companies were active in housing, commercial and industrial building and redevelopments. In order to maintain and consolidate its position in the ever changing building market IBB Kondor looked for a strong partner in the early 1990s and found this in the Wessels Groep. The history of this family business began in 1933 when Arend Wessels, a carpenter from Rijssen, decided to become a building contractor. In 1968 his son Dik Wessels took over the running of the company. The company prospered and became a large and versatile construction group with operations both inside and outside the Netherlands. In the year 1997 Royal Volker Stevin, which was particularly active in infrastructure, and Kondor Wessels, specialised in building and property development, bundled their strengths and Royal Volker Wessels Stevin nv becomes a fact.

In 2002 the trade name VolkerWessels is introduced.

VolkerWessels

The trade name VolkerWessels has been used since 2002. The logo represents the pillars (operating companies) of the group of companies. The apparently missing pillar (white, placed at the centre) interlinks the operating companies.
