The Rotterdamsebaan, the new road between junction Ypenburg and the city centre of The Hague, was festively opened on Friday 5 February. The opening by Minister Cora van Nieuwenhuizen and Alderman Anne Mulder could be followed online. Another week is needed to open the road, including the new Victory Boogie Woogie tunnel, to traffic. In these days the entire route will be checked one last time and the tunnel operators will have time to get used to their new working environment.
VolkerWessels Infrastructure companies Van Hattum and Blankevoort, KWS and Vialis have worked on the project for five years as part of Combinatie Rotterdamsebaan (a collaboration with BAM). Volker Staal en Funderingen, HOMIJ Technische Installaties, and many other VolkerWessels companies have also contributed to the realisation of the 4 kilometre long section.
The Rotterdamsebaan has been constructed to ensure that The Hague and the region of The Hague remain easily accessible now and in the future. The new route offers a solution especially for traffic to and from Rotterdam, Delft and Ypenburg. With 450 solar panels providing energy for the control centre and a system for capturing part of the fine dust emissions from the tunnel at the tunnel exits, the Victory Boogie Woogie tunnel is currently the most sustainable tunnel in Europe.
