BMB ontwikkeling and Reggeborgh Vastgoed deliver 309 social housing units on NDSM site
News
20 March 2020

Today, project NoordDok with 309 social housing units on the former NDSM shipyard in Amsterdam North was delivered to the new owner Woonstichting De Key. BMB ontwikkeling (part of VolkerWessels) and Reggeborgh Vastgoed were responsible for the development of the apartments, commercial facilities, indoor bicycle storage and parking garage. With NoordDok, De Key is creating 309 social housing units for people between 18 and 28 years of age, within close distance of the Amsterdam city centre.

NoordDok is located on the two main access roads to the NDSM site with a view over the IJ river. The three parts of the building, designed by Moke Architects, stand out because of the no-nonsense architecture, which refers to the special industrial character of the historic shipyard. The apartments vary in size between 30 and 50 m2. On the ground floor a garage for residents has been realised. The garage is surrounded by units with a broad commercial purpose (healthcare, office, business premises and possibly catering). In the spring of 2020 a medical cluster will open here.

The new Amsterdam

The NDSM site on the IJ river in Amsterdam North is undergoing a transformation from a former industrial port area into a modern place to live, work and recreate. In recent years, various new construction and transformation projects have been realised, such as the new head office of HEMA, educational institution ROC TOP, several business locations and residential buildings, a HEMA store and various catering establishments. The Amsterdam Marina has also been constructed. In the coming years, the total programme will be expanded to approximately 5,000 owner-occupied and rented homes, parking facilities, leisure functions, commercial spaces, (small) offices and shops.
