Iconic Valley Amsterdam completed
17 November 2021

With pride, last Monday, Bouwcombinatie Valley Amsterdam (Boele & van Eesteren | G&S Bouw, both part of VolkerWessels) delivered the iconic Valley building to client EDGE Technologies and owner RJB Group of Companies. Compliments and a special word of thanks to all colleagues, parties, subcontractors and suppliers involved, with whom we have jointly reached this milestone. Your tireless efforts during this intensive construction period made all the difference.

A new icon on the Amsterdam skyline

You can read more about the completion of Valley in the press release below from EDGE Technologies.

Today, EDGE announces the delivery of the iconic MVRDV-designed mixed-use project Valley to owner RJB Group of Companies. EDGE began the development of this 75,000-square-foot building in 2017 with the goal of bringing a new dynamic to Amsterdam's Zuidas.

After a construction period of more than four years by contractors G&S Bouw and Boele & van Eesteren, the building is ready to welcome office users, new restaurants and bars, residents and visitors. The first office tenants will start moving in shortly. It is expected that the residents will move into the apartments from the end of this year. The stores, restaurants and public courtyard will open in the first quarter of next year. The official opening of the building is scheduled for spring 2022.

Valley marks a turning point in the transformation of Amsterdam's Zuidas into a vibrant and livable urban district. Designed as an urban oasis in collaboration with award-winning architect Winy Maas (MVRDV) and world-renowned landscape architect Piet Oudolf, the project demonstrates, on the one hand, the evolution of urban life and, on the other, how densely populated areas with high-rise buildings can still feel human and green. The building itself reflects the balance between urban life and nature. Natural stone terraces run organically down to the valley floor, creating an architectural landmark that both inspires awe and feels welcoming.

The Board of RJB Group of Companies reports, "As investors, we were involved in the development of Valley early in the process. For example, we added very high quality to the program with a swimming pool, luxury upgrade of the apartments and a concierge. After four years, we are very proud to add Valley to our growing, diverse portfolio and to welcome tenants to live, work and recreate. We are very grateful to our consultants, the team at RJB, the architect, EDGE and everyone at BCVA who made this possible. We are confident that with Valley's unique hospitality concepts and cultural amenities, we are truly adding something unique to the Zuidas. We wish our team every success in managing this jewel of a building."

Coen van Oostrom, Founder & CEO of EDGE: "I am incredibly proud that we have collaborated with RJB Group of Companies, MVRDV and Piet Oudolf on the development of perhaps the most extraordinary mixed-use project in the Netherlands. Valley is more than unique and I hope it will inspire others to reshape the way we live and work. I look forward to seeing Valley really come to life in the coming year."

The three towers of Valley will house housing, offices, an underground parking garage, various stores, restaurants and cultural facilities. Between the three towers is a public courtyard garden, the height differences of which are connected by stairs over five different levels. A total of 370 planters will be installed, distributed over 27 floors, with a total of 1787 m2 of planting. While the greenery offers numerous environmental benefits, the high GPR score (8), the negative EPC score (-0.3) and the sustainability certificate BREEAM Excellent confirm that with Valley, EDGE has realized a highly sustainable development in Amsterdam.

EDGE congratulates RJB Group of Companies, their advisors Hangos Real Estate, Van Gool Elburg and DLA Piper on this wonderful acquisition. Looking back on a fantastic collaboration, EDGE would also like to thank its partners who worked on this extensive development. Special thanks go to MVRDV, Piet Oudolf, Deltavormgroup, Van Rossum Ingenieurs, INBO, DGMR, DWA, Loyens & Loeff, G&S Bouw, Boele & van Eesteren, Bosman Bedrijven and many others involved.
